6.1: By 6/30/08, have a plan to restructure selection of library materials and collection management.
What are some strategies we have for this?
A. Survey staff currently providing selection activities
B. Contact other public libraries regarding methods and staffing for selection of library materials
C. Keep staff informed and involved during process
D. Conduct literature search
E. Evaluate pros/cons of centralized selection v. decentralized selection
F. Formulate staffing plan
G. Identify funding of staff and additional operational costs
What are we working on?
We surveyed 23 staff members who select library materials to poll their opinions about the current selection process and a proposed decentralized selection process.
We surveyed 17 public libraries of comparable size or population served about their methods and staffing for selection of library materials.
A proposal for restructuring the selection of library materials and collection management was presented and accepted.
