Durham's Art Library
Moving Main Library
New Parkwood Library Location
A comment on building a new Main library downtown, from a local blog: Endangered Durham (scroll down to see the library plan)
From Robin Kirk about a new downtown library:
"The beauty of the Imaginon in Charlotte is that it combines lived, active space -- performance, exhibits, café, a gift shop, art, computers, teen space -- with the library, meaning that the building is literally humming with people. I think this is really the future for successful buildings -- not a "one use" facility (like the current performance space under construction in Durham) but multi use, so that the building is busy all the time. It would be wonderful if Durham could see the Imaginon as an inspiration as it contemplates a new space -- a beautiful, exciting new building that would include spaces for a variety of day and night time uses, with a central focus on the library."
